Important information about us

Hive Funds Limited (FSP455547) holds a license issued by the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) to provide financial advice.

What we advise on

We only provide advice on the Hive KiwiSaver Scheme.

We do not offer full financial planning, comprehensive market-wide reviews, or product comparisons across other KiwiSaver providers.

We may refer to third-party public market data (such as general fees, returns, asset allocations, or core features) to assist your decision-making, but we do not formally compare Hive against other KiwiSaver options.

Fees & expenses

We do not charge an upfront or direct fee to you for receiving KiwiSaver advice.

However, if you choose to invest in the Hive KiwiSaver Scheme, you will pay an annual fund charge associated with your scheme membership. Part of this annual fund charge includes an ongoing advice fee component to support our financial advice services.

Conflicts of interest and incentives

Because we only provide advice on our own product (the Hive KiwiSaver Scheme), a conflict of interest exists. Hive Funds Limited acts as the scheme manager and receives management fees from the funds you invest in.

How we manage this conflict

We make it explicitly clear upfront that we only advise on Hive products.

All of our advisers are full-time employees and remunerated with competitive salaries and commission.

Advisers may from time to time receive non-monetary benefits such as promotional or Christmas gifts and industry or social invitations.

To ensure our advisers prioritise your interests above their own, we follow a structured advice process. Our recommendations are strictly based on your age, life stage and personal KiwiSaver journey.

All our Financial Advisers complete annual training on managing conflicts of interest. We engage a reputable compliance firm to complete rigorous annual audits of our advice compliance programme.

Our internal complaints process

If you ever have a problem or complaint regarding our services, please let us know first so we can fix it:

  • We will consider your complaint and let you know how we intend to resolve it. We may need to contact you to get further information about your complaint.
  • We aim to resolve complaints within 10 business days of receiving them. If we can’t, we will contact you within that time to let you know we need more time to consider your complaint.
  • We will contact you by phone or email to let you know whether we can resolve your complaint and how we propose to do so.

External dispute resolution process

If we cannot resolve your complaint internally, or if you are not satisfied with our proposed solution, you can refer the issue to our independent dispute resolution scheme.

Hive and its advisers are members of Financial Services Complaints Limited (FSCL) – an independent approved dispute resolution scheme.

FSCL provides a free dispute resolution service to help investigate or resolve complaints that could not be settled directly.

Our regulatory duties

Hive Funds Limited and our Financial Advisers have legal duties under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 (FMCA) when giving financial advice.

We are required to:

  • Give priority to your interests by taking all reasonable steps to ensure our advice is not materially influenced by our own interests.
  • Exercise care, diligence, and skill in providing you with financial advice.
  • Meet high standards of competence, knowledge, and skill set by the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services.
  • Meet high standards of ethical behaviour, conduct, and client care set by the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services.
